Sedation overview

Whether you’re nervous about oral surgery or simply want the experience to feel as smooth as possible, IV sedation at Bluebird Oral Surgery makes your visit safer, easier, and more comfortable. We combine expert surgical care with advanced anesthesia expertise and the latest monitoring technology, so you can feel confident and cared for from start to finish. With IV sedation you sleep deeply during the procedure, yet unlike the general anesthesia used in hospitals, a breathing ventilator is not required. You stay deeply relaxed and pain-free, often with little or no memory of the surgery afterward.

How IV sedation works

To keep you safe during IV sedation, do not eat or drink for 8 hours before surgery — including water, gum, or coffee. We will call you ahead of time to review instructions and answer your questions. You will need a responsible adult to come with you, drive you home, and stay with you after the procedure. In many cases, dental insurance covers IV sedation for surgical procedures, and we are happy to help confirm your benefits.
