About This Service
Many patients are concerned about the risks of opioid use after surgery, and we are proud to offer opioid-free surgical care for those who want to recover without relying on narcotics. Through advanced long-acting local anesthetics and a thoughtfully designed post-operative pain plan, we help patients heal comfortably while minimizing or even eliminating the need for opioids. Whether you are in recovery, have a personal or family history of opioid sensitivity, or simply want to avoid opioids, our team builds a custom pain-management plan that aligns with your values and needs.
What to Know
We emphasize what actually works. We educate every patient on using anti-inflammatories effectively — typically 400–600 mg of ibuprofen three times daily with meals — to reduce the swelling and inflammation that drive most post-op discomfort. Adding 1000 mg of acetaminophen three times daily provides another layer of relief that works synergistically with NSAIDs, and together this regimen often eliminates the need for opioids altogether.
Procedure Details
Exparel® — Long-Lasting Nerve Block
Exparel is a non-opioid anesthetic that provides up to 72 hours of pain relief by delivering bupivacaine directly into the surgical site. This long-acting medication significantly reduces the need for additional pain medication during the critical first days after surgery.
Journavx™ Multimodal Protocols
For patients who don’t mind a small additional pharmacy cost, we can prescribe Journavx, a modern, evidence-based surgical pain protocol. It lets us personalize recovery with non-opioid combinations that are just as effective — without the risks of sedation, dependence, or gastrointestinal upset.
What Most Patients Experience
Most patients take fewer than 6 opioid tablets, if any.
Many choose to recover entirely opioid-free.
Clear, proactive guidance makes all the difference.
A Safer Path to Healing
We manage pain proactively, not reactively. Our goal is to minimize opioid exposure, prevent dependence and misuse, and support faster, more comfortable healing. You shouldn’t have to choose between comfort and caution — we deliver both.
